Sacred Games Review: A Mind-bending Crime Thriller from India

Censorship is a big hindrance to creativity hence we see lots of cliché movies and TV series in India but when these boundaries are erased, we get pieces of GOLD. Directed by new age directors Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, Sacred Games breaks the barrier of shame and hypocrisy in Indian cinema. This is a BOLD movie with honest dialogues and mind-bending twist and turns. You will find no-nonsense moments or melodrama in this utterly gritty series. Made with complete honesty, Sacred Games is the series made for Indian Netflix bingers which needed an international trace in a homegrown story. Unlike other mindless movies, Sacred Games is an international game-changer. Indian audience needed something like Narcos and Inglourious Basterds, Indian audience was bored of watching pretentious family dramas, they needed something original and Sacred Games definitely breaks the ice with the loudest thud.

We have seen many crime thrillers in the past but the way the directors handled each moment in this Series is certainly laudable, from the full frontal nudity of Kubra Sait (Cuckoo) to some gory scenes, these series qualifies as one of the most hard-hitting pieces of marvel in Indian cinema. Sacred Games wouldn't have been possible for a theatrical release because it contains strong language, nudity, and violence. Netflix is changing the game for Directors, Producers, and actors for sure. It's surely the future and actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui (as Gaitonde), Saif Ali Khan (as Sartaj Singh) and Radhika Apte (as Anjali Mathur) completely nailed it with their performance. There is no dull moment in the entire series. There are many characters in Sacred Games and everyone had a huge role to play throughout the series.

The background score in Sacred Games reminds us of Inglorious Basterds. Unlike other movies or series, Sacred Games was directed by two directors. Anurag Kashyap handled scenes having Nawazuddin Siddiqui while Vikramaditya Motwane handled scenes having Saif Ali Khan and undoubtedly they did a brilliant job and continuously outdone each other throughout the entire web series. Sacred Games is so addictive that you won't feel like missing out any second and each episode will make you crave for more. With all the twist and turns, there are a lot of the philosophical phases too. The series questions the existence of God and pulls out many mythological events. There are personal struggles, few exquisite moments that were never shown in Indian cinema, unconventional relationships and lots of internal muddles. Sacred Games is surely the best piece of art curated by Indian directors till date. It's thrilling, mind-bending and immensely satisfying tale of Crime, Politics, and Power.
